Master 1 Gestion des Territoires et Développement Local (GTDL)
The Master 1 Gestion des Territoires et Développement Local (GTDL) is a two-year program that aims to provide students with the necessary skills for careers in local development and territorial management in rural and mountain areas.
Objectives
The objective of the Master GTDL is to equip students with the competencies required for professions in local development and territorial management. The program focuses on providing students with the ability to:
- Conduct interdisciplinary and transversal reflections on transitions in mountain territories
- Analyze and diagnose environmental and societal changes in mountain areas
- Acquire methods and tools for territorial engineering and implement them in a professional context
- Lead territorial projects that mobilize interdisciplinary competencies in a collaborative framework
Teaching Methods
The program combines theoretical and methodological foundations with practical and operational contributions. Numerous professional situations are organized, including field trips, study tours, seminars with professionals, conferences, workshops, and tutored collective projects.

Curriculum
The program is structured into four semesters, with progressive specialization and transversal competence development. The curriculum includes:
- Territoires de montagne: enjeux et approches théoriques
- Politiques publiques et action collective en montagne
- Environnement institutionnel et juridique des territoires
- Gestion d'un projet évčnementiel
- Environnement et sociétés: processus de transition
- Dynamique des systčmes écologiques en montagne
- Ingénierie et projet de territoire
- Stage and professionnalisation
Admission
The program is accessible to students who have completed 180 ECTS in a field related to the program, such as geography, planning, economics, management, science, and humanities. Candidates must apply through the dedicated platform.
Practical Information
In the first year, students complete two professional projects: a project event in the first semester and a territorial diagnosis in the second semester. A four-month minimum internship is also mandatory, evaluated by a memoir and an oral presentation.

The program benefits from numerous partnerships with the socio-professional world, including national and regional parks, local authorities, tourist offices, associations, and public administrations. The training is based on the work and expertise developed by teacher-researchers within various laboratories of Aix-Marseille University.
