Introduction to the CESU Advanced Course in Physiologically-Based Pharmacokinetic Modeling

The CESU Advanced course in physiologically-based pharmacokinetic modeling is designed to provide participants with the theoretical and technical knowledge to accurately develop, apply, and evaluate PBPK models. This field is rapidly evolving and growing, with an urgent need for trained experts capable of handling various purposes such as R&D of new pharmaceuticals, inter-individual variability handling, and assessment of toxicological risks.


Objectives

The objective of the formation is for participants to master the concepts and in silico tools for PBPK models.


Target Audience

The course is aimed at professionals or doctoral students in the fields of pharmacology or toxicology working in the pharmaceutical industry, regulatory agencies, hospitals, or research laboratories.


Admission Requirements

The prior validation of the CESU "Fundamentals for modeling and simulation in pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics" is a prerequisite for this course.


Recommended Prerequisites

Professionals or doctoral students in the domains of pharmacology and toxicology working in the pharmaceutical industry, regulatory agencies, hospitals, or research laboratories are recommended to have a background in the field.

Knowledge to be Acquired

The concepts include pharmacokinetic ADME parameters, in vitro models, in vitro/in vivo extrapolation, chemical structure-property relationships, model optimization, simulation, and parameter sensitivity analysis. Participants will acquire technical experience with Matlab Simbiology, Berkeley-Madonna, R, GastroPlus, PKSim, and Simcyp through workshops.


Skills to be Acquired

After the formation, participants should be able to develop, apply, and evaluate PBPK models with relevance.


Professional Outcomes

The formation is intended for students holding a master's degree or professionals who have previously validated the CESU "Fundamentals for modeling and simulation in pharmacocinétique/pharmacodynamie". After validating the two CESU, participants will obtain the DESU "Modeling and simulation: physiologically-based pharmacokinetic modeling for pharmacology and toxicology", which certifies an advanced level of competence in physiologically-based pharmacokinetic modeling, highly sought after for numerous positions in the pharmaceutical industry and regulatory agencies related to drugs and toxicology.
