Master Microbiology, Course: Microbial engineering and biotechnologies
Program Overview
Master Microbiologie, Parcours: IngÈnierie et Biotechnologies Microbiennes
The objective of the IngÈnierie et Biotechnologies Microbiennes program is to train Master's level graduates in industrial and applied microbiology, implemented in the bioindustries of the agro-food, pharmaceutical, and environmental sectors, whether in research and development, production, or quality control. Graduates will be able to write or present orally, in an adapted manner, a project or report on industrial and applied microbiology.

OBJECTIFS
The objective of the IBM program is to train Master's level graduates in industrial and applied microbiology, capable of:
- elaborating an experimental approach and integrating or designing a project in the bioindustries of the agro-food, pharmaceutical, and environmental sectors
- writing or presenting orally, in an adapted manner, a project or report on industrial and applied microbiology
- implementing microbiology skills in research and development, production, or quality control
FORMATION ET RECHERCHE
The IngÈnierie et Biotechnologies Microbiennes program is based on a set of microbiology laboratories and technological platforms from the Faculties of Sciences and Pharmacy of Aix Marseille UniversitÈ, the CEA Cadarache, the National Institute of Agronomic Research in Marseille and Avignon, as well as bioindustries and control organizations in the region.
COMP…TENCES ¿ ACQU…RIR
- integrating into projects for the valorization and implementation of microorganisms of interest
- resolving problems related to the presence and development of undesirable microorganisms
- mastering the main techniques of microbiological quality control and microbiological risk analysis in industry
- developing rapid analysis tools for the identification, detection, and enumeration of microorganisms and for the diagnosis of infectious diseases
STAGES ET PROJETS ENCADR…S
- In M1: Mandatory internship from the first year of the curriculum, potentially abroad (Italy, Belgium, and Germany, in particular). Research project supervised by researchers.
- In M2: Two main projects in industrial biotechnology and microbiological risk analysis will be carried out during the first semester of M2. Mandatory six-month end-of-study internship in a company, research laboratory, or control laboratory, or technological platform on a subject of applied microbiology.
MODALIT…S P…DAGOGIQUES PARTICULI»RES
The pedagogy is based on classical methods with mainly practical work and lectures, as well as active pedagogy approaches, which consist of designing a poster, slides, a protocol, and presenting projects, seminars, experimental results, and a poster.
