Introduction to the Licence LEA (Langues …trangŤres Appliquťes) Program

The Licence LEA (Langues …trangŤres Appliquťes) program is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in languages, culture, and civilization, particularly in the Anglo-Saxon world and the Middle East & Maghreb region. The program aims to equip students with professional-level writing and communication skills in French, English, and Arabic.


Objectives

The primary objectives of the Licence LEA program are:


  • To acquire in-depth knowledge of the political and cultural dynamics at play in the Anglo-Saxon world and the Middle East & Maghreb region.
  • To develop advanced linguistic skills in English (C1+) and solid skills in Arabic (B1+ for beginners, B2+ for intermediates, C1+ for advanced learners).
  • To master the skills necessary for translating various texts from English and Arabic into French and vice versa.
  • To develop the ability to apply legal and economic concepts and management and communication tools to analyze situations or manage projects related to the Arab world.

Target Audience

The program is designed for students interested in the Anglophone and Arabophone worlds, particularly those attracted to professions that require multiple languages in fields such as commerce, business, international institutions and organizations, diplomacy, tourism, media, culture, and more.


Admission Requirements

To be eligible for the program, students must hold a baccalaureate or a DAEU (DiplŰme d'AccŤs aux …tudes Universitaires). Holders of other diplomas can find more information on the university's website.


Recommended Prerequisites

Students are expected to have a strong motivation, autonomy, and organizational skills in their work. They should also have a facility for learning languages and familiarizing themselves with associated cultures, the ability to structure their thoughts and write texts, and the capacity to reason with quantitative data and adapt to different institutional and cultural contexts.


Teaching Locations

The program is taught at the ALLSH (Facultť des Arts, Lettres, Langues et Sciences Humaines) in Aix-en-Provence, specifically at the Schuman site.


Formation and Research

The Licence LEA program primarily prepares students for professional master's programs outside of teaching and research. However, it can also lead to research in political science, sociology, economics, or law applied to the Arab world through the Master Langues et Sociťtťs, parcours Moyen-Orient & Maghreb (MOMA).

Internships and Supervised Projects

The program includes a mandatory internship in a company or another structure for all third-year students, validating a 2 ECTS unit. The "Projet professionnel et orientation" teaching in the fifth semester accompanies students in elaborating their professional project and searching for internships. The internship lasts eight weeks (280 hours), following the teaching weeks, revision weeks, and exams.

The program uses a combination of face-to-face teaching and the AMťTICE pedagogical platform. It encourages active pedagogy, including problem-based approaches, student presentations, mini-research papers, and individual and group work.
