Program Overview

Introduction to the Diplôme d'Etudes Supérieures Universitaires - Méthodes statistiques avancées en santé (DESU MSTAVS)

The analysis of medical information, with its increasing complexity, requires high-level skills and expertise in statistical methodology. This training is focused on the concepts and use of statistical methods useful for implementing multivariate analyses. Intended for health students and professionals, it aims to acquire in-depth knowledge of advanced statistical methods, enabling the realization of multivariate analyses to treat censored or non-censored data, longitudinal or multi-dimensional structures.

Objectives

The objective of the DESU MSTAVS is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of advanced statistical methods for analyzing complex medical data. This includes the analysis of multivariate data, longitudinal data, and data with multiple dimensions.

Conditions for Admission

  • Students in the second cycle of medical, pharmaceutical, and dental studies, as well as doctors, pharmacists, and dental surgeons.
  • Students who have validated a Master's 1 in public health or in the health field.
  • For other cases, the head of the training will proceed to an individual analysis of the application file.

Pedagogical Organization

The pedagogical organization of the DESU MSTAVS is overseen by Professor Roch Giorgi. This training can be followed entirely at a distance on the internet via net conference. The theoretical teaching takes place over a little more than 120 hours, divided into about 50 hours of theoretical teaching and about 70 hours of practical work and personal work. Part of the teaching gives rise to tutoring using Information and Communication Technologies (ICT): course materials available on the pedagogical server, training and practice exercises, quizzes, self-assessment, discussion forum, etc.

Program

The training is divided into 3 blocks of 2 Teaching Units (UE), to be chosen from the 4 proposed blocks:

  • UE STA-MLTL: Multivariate analysis methods for non-censored data
  • UE STA-MLTC: Multivariate analysis methods for censored data
  • UE STA-XDIM: Multivariate exploratory analysis methods for descriptive and dimension reduction purposes
  • UE STA-XCLA: Multivariate exploratory analysis methods for classification
  • UE STA-LOMX: Longitudinal data analysis and mixed models
  • UE STA-LOGE: Longitudinal data analysis and generalized estimation equation models
  • UE STA-COXC: Extensions of the Cox model and competitive risks
  • UE STA-SNET: Net survival analysis, regression model of excess mortality rate

Assessment of Knowledge

The evaluation of each Teaching Unit is done according to specific modalities (written exam, writing and oral presentation of a thesis, homework to be completed within the given deadlines). Specific coefficients are associated with the continuous assessment of knowledge and the terminal examination. There is only one examination session. The modalities specific to each Teaching Unit are given in their respective course block. There is no compensation between the Teaching Units. To validate the DESU MSTAVS, all the chosen UE (6 UE) that make up this DESU must be validated (validation of the UE if the grade is ≥ 10). A single final grade for the DESU is calculated.

Location of Teaching

All courses can be followed live by video conference. They can also be followed in person in one of the computer rooms of the Faculty of Medical and Paramedical Sciences of Marseille.

Maximum Number of Students

The number of students who can enroll in this DESU is limited to 15.

Partnerships

This course is offered by the Institute of Public Health Sciences of Aix-Marseille (ISSPAM) and benefits from the support and partnership of the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF).

Scholarships

For foreign French-speaking students, it is possible to obtain distance learning scholarships from the AUF.

Application Procedure

To apply, candidates must download and complete the application form, and send it along with a CV and a letter of motivation.
