Program Overview

Program Overview

The Air Force ROTC is a four-year program that consists of 16 academic credits centered around leadership, management, history, current events, and Air Force operations. These courses prepare students to become Air Force or Space Force Officers after graduation while majoring in whatever field of study interests them.

Program Benefits

The program allows students to dive head-first into the theory of leadership, test and systematically develop their skills, and receive Utah State University academic credits. Students can try out Air Force ROTC 100% commitment-free for the first two years, allowing them to try out the military before signing any contract or service commitment.

Accomplish Your Goals

The program provides a comprehensive free leadership training program, allowing students to be successful in their future careers, regardless of whether or not they decide to pursue a career in the military.

Become a Better Leader

The program offers a comprehensive leadership program, enabling students to become the best leaders they can be.

Get Academic Credit

Completion of the AFROTC program earns students a minor in Aerospace Studies along with their chosen major.

100% Free of Military Commitment

No decisions are needed until the third year in the program or students accept a scholarship from the Air Force.

Build Life-long Friendships

Students join a community of fantastic and determined people ready to make a difference.

Compete for the Most Coveted Jobs in the World

The program provides a first step to an exciting and fulfilling career, with opportunities to become a pilot, space operations officer, special warfare officer, nuclear missile operations officer, intelligence officer, or engineer.

Service Commitment

After graduation, the amount of time students will serve in the Air Force or Space Force depends on which career field they enter. Most fields require a four-year commitment, but "rated" career fields require additional commitment:

  • Pilot - 10 years after training
  • Combat Systems Operator - 6 years after training
  • RPA Pilot - 6 years after training
  • Air Battle Manager - 6 years after training

Scholarships

Air Force ROTC scholarships are incredible opportunities and cover:

  1. Tuition and fees
  2. $900 every year for textbooks
  3. A non-taxable monthly stipend

There are two opportunities for cadets to receive scholarship support:

  1. High School Scholarship Program (HSSP): Available to high school seniors.
  2. Brigadier General Charles McGee Leadership Award (CMLA): A two-year award for cadets who meet scholarship requirements and have completed Field Training.

Time Commitment

The AFROTC Program requires roughly 6 hours per week from Freshman and Sophomore cadets during the school year, comprising:

  • 1 hour in Academic Class (AS 1010)
  • 2 hours in Leadership Lab (AS 1110)
  • 3 hours of Fitness Training (AS 3060)

Cadets also have the option to participate in other programs and activities, including:

  • Honor Guard
  • Service projects
  • Mentor meetings
  • Formal military dances and dinners
  • Visit active duty Air Force bases
  • Summer training
