Introduction to the International Gender Studies Program
The Master's program "International Gender Studies" is an independent program at the Ruhr-University Bochum, offering a double degree option. This program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of gender studies from an international perspective.
Program Details
Duration and Scope
The program has a standard duration of 4 semesters and comprises 120 CP. It includes a compulsory internship and a semester abroad, which are essential components of the program.
Internship and Semester Abroad
- The internship is compulsory and lasts for 4 weeks or 160 hours.
- A stay abroad of at least one semester must be completed during the degree program.
- To obtain the "Double Degree," the semester abroad must be completed at a partner university with which a double degree agreement specifies special conditions for the study abroad.
Degree
The program leads to a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree, which is recognized as a full academic degree in the countries of the partner universities and qualifies for a further doctorate.
Admission Requirements
Eligibility
Completion of an eligible B.A. program in Gender Studies with a minimum of 180 ECTS is required. Other equivalent degrees in the humanities and cultural studies, social and economic sciences, law, theology, psychology, or health and nursing science can be recognized as equivalent.
Equivalent Degrees
Equivalent degrees must include at least 30 ECTS from one or more of the following areas:
- Gender issues in cultural and social sciences
- Theory development in the fields of culture, media, and society
- Methods of empirical research in cultural studies, humanities, and social sciences
Equivalence Check
An equivalence check is carried out based on the admission requirements described above and is conducted based on the application documents submitted.
