Program Overview


Master of Arts Program

The Master of Arts program at the Katholisch-Theologische Fakultät is a four-semester course of study that can be undertaken after completing a Bachelor's degree. The program is designed to be taken in conjunction with another subject (Zwei-Fach-Modell), and the second subject from the Bachelor's phase is retained in the Master's phase.


Program Objectives

The objective of the Master of Arts program is to deepen the knowledge acquired during the Bachelor's program and to enable specialization in selected subfields of Catholic Theology. The program aims to provide graduates with a wide range of career opportunities.


Program Structure

  • The Master's program is typically four semesters long.
  • It can only be taken in combination with another subject (Zwei-Fach-Modell).
  • The second subject from the Bachelor's phase is retained in the Master's phase.

Admission Requirements

  • A successfully completed Bachelor's degree is required for admission.
  • For students who wish to transfer from another university, an application for equivalence must be submitted.

Language Requirements

  • Latin (Latinum) is required, which is a state expansion exam for the Abitur certificate.
  • Greek language skills (at least 2.5 CP) are required.
  • Hebrew language skills (at least 2.5 CP) are required.
  • All required language skills must be proven by the time of registration for the Master's thesis.

Academic Advising

  • The Studienfachberatung offers advice on general questions about the program and assistance with specific problems and questions related to the study.
  • The Studienfachberatung is responsible for registration for module final exams.

Examination Office

  • The Gemeinsame Prüfungsamt is responsible for examination modalities in the Master's program.

Equivalence for University Transfers and Lateral Entrants

  • Students who want to enter the Master's program as university transfers or lateral entrants must submit an application for recognition of the equivalence of their university degree with the corresponding Bachelor's degree from the Ruhr-Universität Bochum.
