Program Overview
Introduction to PRIMED
PRIMED represents an innovative collaboration between the University of Tasmania's School of Engineering and the engineering industry. This initiative seamlessly integrates real-world industry experiences into the entire Bachelor of Engineering degree program.
About the Program
With a strong focus on preparing students for the workforce, PRIMED fosters active participation of practicing professional engineers in educating the next generation of engineering professionals. Through PRIMED, students engage with professional engineers in various ways, including classroom activities and immersive field experiences like site visits, workshops, design challenges, and work placements.
Connecting Students with Industry
The program offers a range of on and off-campus activities designed to connect students with industry professionals. The goal is to secure job placements for graduates, underscoring the University of Tasmania's dedication to nurturing forward-thinking, industry-ready graduates.
How to Get Involved
PRIMED welcomes professional engineering organisations and businesses in the broader engineering sector. There are different levels of involvement, including:
- Standard Membership: Perfect for partners who wish to contribute to one or two events annually, with a total time commitment of up to 10 hours per year. This flexible arrangement is designed to suit the availability of the partner and may include delivering a guest lecture, hosting a site visit, or offering an honours project.
- Silver Sponsor: Ideal for partners looking to take a more active role, with involvement in 3 to 5 events per year, equating to approximately 10 to 50 hours annually. Activities may include the mentoring program, final year projects, and the opportunity to contribute to honours or master's projects. A contribution of $2,000–$4,000 is requested as part of the silver sponsorship.
- Gold Sponsor: Designed for partners who wish to be deeply engaged across all student-focused events throughout the year. Gold sponsors participate in five or more events annually, including work placements, internships, mentoring programs, and graduate program opportunities. A donation in the range of $4,001–$6,000 is requested as part of the gold sponsorship.
Student Engagement
These industry interactions are meticulously documented by students, enriching their practical experience portfolios accumulated during their degree. As graduation approaches, PRIMED facilitates a structured transition to employment, offering clear avenues for students and employers to connect. The overarching goal of the PRIMED program is to secure employment for all graduates.
