Diploma of Global Logistics and Maritime Management (P1E)

Overview

The Diploma of Global Logistics and Maritime Management is designed to equip students with up-to-date business knowledge, preparing them for roles in management and administration within the maritime and logistics industries. This course provides a pathway into the P2E Associate Degree of Global Logistics and Maritime Management and the P3E Bachelor of Global Logistics and Maritime Management.


Duration and Location

  • Minimum 1 year, up to a maximum of 3 years.
  • Available to study as both part-time or full-time.
  • Location: Launceston, with options for online study.

Course Structure

The Diploma of Global Logistics and Maritime Management requires the completion of 100 credit points comprising:


  • 50 credit points: 4 core units
  • 25 credit points: 2 major units
  • 25 credit points: 2 elective units

Core Units

  1. JNB154 - International Business Communication: Develops fundamental written and verbal communication skills necessary for effective communication in both business careers and academic studies.
  2. JNB156 - Introduction to the Maritime Industry: Provides a good understanding of individual sectors in the maritime industry, including its history, maritime geography, and the concept of maritime transport in facilitating international trade.
  3. JNB160 - Exporting and Importing: Introduces the concepts, principles, and practice of exporting and importing goods, examining classical and modern theories of international trade.
  4. JNB163 - Commercial and Transport Law: Introduces broad foundations to business law within Australia and applies understanding to the laws governing transport within Australia.

Major Area Choice

Choose one of the following major areas and complete the two introductory units as listed:

  • Maritime Business Management:

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:


  1. Explain knowledge and concepts commonly used to interpret business practices and situations within the broad field of logistics and maritime management.
  2. Analyse business practices in a broad selection of logistics and maritime contexts.
  3. Outline how logistics and maritime problem-solving processes and methodologies can be applied, considering social, ethical, regulatory, technological, and global perspectives.
  4. Communicate logistics and maritime management knowledge and concepts using various methods and formats to a range of audiences.

Career Outcomes

The Diploma of Global Logistics and Maritime Management prepares students for management and administrative careers in private enterprise, industry organisations, and government in areas such as commercial shipping, ports and terminals, transport policy and administration, freight forwarding, and exporting and importing.


Entry Requirements

For Domestic Students

  • Schools Recommendation Program: Australian year 12 students can apply via this program, which considers year 11 results, an assessment of capabilities, and other considerations.
  • Domestic applicants who recently completed secondary education: Completed the TCE (or equivalent).
  • Domestic applicants with higher education study: Completed UTAS University Preparation Program or an equivalent enabling program offered by another Australian university, or successfully completed one undergraduate unit of study at Diploma level or higher.
  • Domestic applicants with VET/TAFE study: Completed a Certificate III or above in any discipline.
  • Domestic applicants with work and life experience: Can complete a personal competency statement.
  • Subject Prerequisites: No specific prerequisites.

For International Students

  • English Language Requirements: IELTS (Academic) of 6.0, with no individual band less than 5.5, or a PTE Academic score of 50, with no score lower than 42, or equivalent.
  • General Entry Requirements: Completion of qualifications equivalent to a year 12 education in Australia.
  • Course Specific Requirements: No specific requirements.

Fees and Scholarships

For Domestic Students

  • Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP): Available for this course, with an indicative annual fee of $13,232.
  • HECS-HELP loans: Eligible students can defer payment of the student contribution amount.

For International Students

  • 2026 Total Tuition Fee: $36,250 AUD per standard, full-time year of study (100 credit points).

Articulation

The Diploma of Global Logistics and Maritime Management articulates into the P2E Associate Degree in Global Logistics and Maritime Management or the P3E Bachelor of Global Logistics and Maritime Management.
