Program Overview


Graduate Diploma of Land Surveying (K6J)

Overview

The Graduate Diploma of Land Surveying is a postgraduate program designed to provide students with the necessary qualifications for registration with the Tasmanian Land Surveyors Accreditation Board and for reciprocal registration in other States of Australia. This course, together with the Bachelor of Surveying and Spatial Sciences or its equivalent, meets the requirements for registration as a land surveyor.


Duration

The minimum duration of this course is 1 year, and the maximum duration is 3 years. The duration may vary depending on whether the student chooses to study full-time or part-time.

This course is available at the University's campuses in Tasmania.


Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:


  • Perform cadastral surveys that adhere to professional and legal regulations.
  • Employ professional and ethical standards in land surveying practice.
  • Explain the roles and responsibilities of land surveyors in society.

Work Integrated Learning

The Graduate Diploma involves a compulsory 1-semester (50%) work-based component, which provides students with practical experience in the field of land surveying.


Professional Accreditation

The Graduate Diploma of Land Surveying is an externally accredited degree, accredited by the Tasmanian Land Surveyors Accreditation Board and the Malaysian Land Surveyors Board. Graduates will meet the requirements for entry as a candidate for registration with these boards.


Career Outcomes

This course prepares students for registration as land surveyors and for careers in the field of land surveying.


Course Structure

This is a fully-prescribed course, consisting of five units (100 credit points) that must be completed. The units are:


  • KGG505: Surveying Practice
  • KGG506: Land Law and Cadastral Studies
  • KGG507: Land Development Planning
  • KGG509: Land Surveying Professional Placement
  • KGG519: Land Development Design

Entry Requirements

For domestic students, candidates must hold a Bachelor of Surveying and Spatial Sciences degree or an equivalent tertiary qualification. International students may not be eligible for this course.
