The Expanded Practice unit (UCP013) is a 12.5 credit point unit offered by the University of Tasmania through the University Connections Program (UCP). This unit is designed to extend students' understanding of visual arts practice, exploring agendas, concepts, and issues that enrich their approach to materials and ideas.
Introduction
Expanded Practice delves into various agendas, including sustainability, environment, ethics, AI, sampling/copyright, and identity. Students will engage in studio and writing activities to situate their work within a broader understanding of the contemporary world. This unit is suitable for students concurrently undertaking Visual Art (TASC level 3) ART and Art Studio Practice (TASC level 3) ART or equivalent.

Teaching
The teaching pattern for this unit includes:
- Symposium (start of year on campus at UTAS), 6 hours, once
- Content delivery online, 12 x 1hr content
- Downloadable activities and content for use in classes, 12 weeks
- Excursions, 3 x 6 hours, excursions (UTAS workshops, museums, artists discussions, etc.)
- Tutor visits to school, 4 x 1.5 hours, 4 visits
Assessment
The assessment for this unit includes:
- Establish Field of enquiry (30%)
- Project proposal (30%)
- Material and or visual exploration in response to a theme work presentation (40%)
