Communicating Your Science to the Public

The Communicating Your Science to the Public workshop series is a three-session program that provides an overview of why and how to engage the public in science communication. The program is co-led by Aimee Bernard, PhD, and Wendy Meyer, MA, and is designed for faculty, students, and research service professionals.

Workshop Session #1

The first session, "The Basics of Science Communication and Storytelling," covers the reasons why scientists should communicate their science to the public, the barriers to public understanding of science, and the ideal characteristics of communication demonstrated by a scientist when speaking about their science to the public.

Workshop Session #2

The second session, "Craft and Refine Your Science Research Story," focuses on developing skills to craft compelling scientific narratives without sacrificing accuracy, tailoring research messages to engage various audiences, and integrating storytelling into research communication strategies.

Workshop Session #3

The third session, "Share Your Science with the World," covers the elements of a successful elevator pitch, providing constructive feedback on fellow participants' elevator pitch videos, and strategizing ways to share science beyond academia.
