The 10th Grade START Summer Science Camp is a 2-week summer program designed for students entering 10th grade in Fall 2026. The program will take place from Monday, July 20, 2026, through Friday, July 31, 2026.

Program Details

• Dates: Monday, July 20, 2026, through Friday, July 31, 2026
• Hours: 9:00am to 4:00pm daily
• Cost: Free, with lunch provided
• Location: University of Colorado Anschutz Campus

Curriculum

The program will cover a range of topics, including:

• Practical lab techniques
• Research methods and documentation
• Scientific communication and teamwork
• Electrophoresis, central dogma, PCR, and ELISA
• Cancer research as a career path
• Development of research projects and data collection
• Research proposals, peer review, and scientific posters
• Resilience and learning from failure

Learning Activities

Students will participate in:

• Lab experiments
• Pipetting techniques and lab safety activities
• Guest speaker sessions on animals in cancer research and science poster creation
• Data analysis from cell experiments
• Tours of lab facilities
• Clinical research panel discussions
• A capstone project

Requirements and Preparation

• Attire: Closed-toe shoes and long pants/skirt
• Items to bring:
  • A backpack for personal items
  • A filled water bottle
  • 1-2 snacks
  • A hair tie (if applicable)
