Law Studies Major
The Law Studies major provides students with a fundamental knowledge of law and the U.S. legal system, as well as professional and scholarly skills needed for law school and many law-related careers.
Program Delivery
This is an on-campus program.
Declaring This Major
Students may choose only one of the two options: the Traditional Path or the Cluster-Based Path.
Program Requirements
Students must complete a minimum of 39 credit hours, including 27 upper-division credit hours, taken from approved courses. Students must earn a minimum grade of C (2.0) in all courses that apply to the major taken at CU Denver and must achieve a minimum cumulative major GPA of 2.0.
Program Restrictions, Allowances, and Recommendations
There are two paths to this major: the Traditional Path and the Cluster-Based Path. For the Cluster-Based Path, students must complete the required Legal Core courses and two additional clusters of 12 credits each, as well as an exit course.
Traditional Path
The Traditional Path requires students to complete the following courses:
- Introduction to Legal Studies
- Constitutional Law I
- Constitutional Law II
- Legal Advocacy/Engagement
- Two Professional Skills courses
- Five Law Studies elective courses
- An exit course approved by the program director
Cluster-Based Path
The Cluster-Based Path requires students to complete the following courses:
- Introduction to Legal Studies
- Constitutional Law I
- Constitutional Law II
- Legal Advocacy/Engagement
- Two additional clusters with 12 credits each
- An exit course approved by the program director
