Urology Residency Training Program

The Urology Residency Training Program at the University of Colorado School of Medicine is a fully-accredited ACGME five-year program with a resident complement of three residents per year. It is directed by Dr. Granville Lloyd and associate directed by Dr. Dan Wood. Drs. Lloyd and Wood have a combined experience of over 40 years in Urology practice and education.

Mission and Goals

The mission of the program is to provide the best possible resident training in urology, maximizing both wellness and exposure to the clinical, scientific, and technical aspects of urology. The goals for urology resident training include experience in:

• Surgery: Providing excellent volume and variety of surgical experience in general urology and various urologic subspecialties, including urologic oncology, female urology, neurourology, pediatric urology, infertility and impotence, endourology and stone disease, and genitourinary trauma.
• Outpatient Care: Providing substantial ambulatory (outpatient clinical) experience in general urology and various urologic subspecialties, exposing trainees to a diversity of practice settings to inform career choices.
• Industry Events: Participating in educational and research conferences, where residents are active participants, and attending simulation sessions to enhance the training experience and prepare graduates for future practice.

Application Process

The Urology Residency Program at the University of Colorado School of Medicine is approved for three resident positions per year. Applications must be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). The following items must be included with ERAS applications to be considered complete:

• Personal statement
• Curriculum vitae
• Transcript from medical school
• National test scores (USMLE/COMLEX)
• Three letters of recommendation from faculty members
• MSPE (Dean's Letters)

Eligibility

Residents in the program must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or otherwise possess, or be able to obtain prior to the start date, the appropriate documentation to allow the applicant to legally train at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

Interview Dates

The Division of Urology Residency Interviews will be conducted virtually. The interview dates are:

• Monday, November 10, 2025
• Thursday, November 20, 2025

Salary and Benefits

Resident compensation starts at $80,373.20. Additional benefits include:

• $1000 consideration for residents to move to Colorado
• $1400 towards conference travel
• Education funds annually
• Purchase of loupes

Meet the Team

The program is led by:

Dr. Granville Lloyd, Program Director

Dr. Granville Lloyd is a native of Longmont, Colorado, and has been a CU Urology faculty member since 2016. He became Associate Program Director of the Residency Program in 2022 and assumed the role of Director in January 2024.

Dr. Dan Wood, Associate Director

Dr. Dan Wood is a Professor of Urology, Associate Vice Chair for Pediatric to Adult Transition Surgery in the School of Medicine, and Chair of Adult Congenital Surgery at Children's Hospital Colorado.

Amanda Garza, Program Coordinator

Amanda works directly with residents to provide them with resources during their time in the program. She helps coordinate residents' community events and is the trainees' go-to person for help with communication, rotations, and any other needs they may have while completing their Residency.
