Odyssey Programme

Learning Outcomes

The Odyssey Programme is designed to enable PhD candidates to explore and progress new career prospects beyond academia. Participants will gain a deeper awareness of the variety of interesting and challenging career options available to them. They will be able to analyze and appraise the current job market and the many opportunities available. The program aims to create "academia to beyond academia" ambassadors who can create pathways to and from third-level institutions to other high-performing organizations.


  • Participants will be enabled to apply the change in perspective encouraged in this programme to willingly explore and progress new career prospects.
  • PhD's will gain a deeper awareness of the variety of interesting and challenging career options that exist beyond academia.
  • They will be in a position to analyse and appraise the current job market and the many opportunities available to them.
  • They will be able to appreciate the cultural differences and different metrics of success in organisations beyond academia, enhancing their potential for future leadership and impact in multiple sectors.

Programme Evaluation

The effectiveness of the Odyssey Programme will be evaluated by monitoring the progress of participants over a period of years to determine their career outcomes. An analysis of the specific characteristics of this programme will be compiled, including detailed feedback from participants, to lead to a more enhanced programme highlighting areas for improvement and development. One-to-one assistance is provided by CV clinics for participants to encourage them to put the programme to use.
