The University College Cork Language Centre offers a variety of English language courses and programs for students and professionals.

Business English and TOEIC Exams Skills

This course is designed to help students improve their Business English skills and prepare for the TOEIC exam.

Course Details

• Delivery Mode: In-person on campus, with online part-time courses available subject to demand.
• Days and Times of Class: Thursdays from 14:00-16:00 (Irish Time).
• Course Duration: 12 hours total, consisting of 6 weeks of 2-hour classes plus self-study and assignments for teacher feedback.
• Course Dates 2026: Summer School from Thursday, 16th July to Thursday, 20th August 2026.
• Level: B1 and higher.
• Course Cost: 180, with special offers available for UCC staff and students.

Course Overview

The course focuses on improving Business English skills, with expert guidance on all four skills (reading, speaking, listening, and writing) and grammar and vocabulary. Students will complete exam tasks to test their knowledge and develop strategies to achieve a higher TOEIC score.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, students will:

• Have built on their business English vocabulary and grammar.
• Have a better understanding of TOEIC exam tasks and employ useful strategies to get a higher score.
• Have developed confidence in their speaking skills through role-plays, presentations, and social conversation.
• Be better able to flexibly and appropriately use formal and semi-formal language in a range of workplace situations.
• Be equipped with communication and language strategies to successfully manage collaborative teamwork, decision-making, negotiations, training, and networking.

Student Feedback/Assessment/Certification

Students will receive regular feedback from their teachers on their progress. There will be no formal end-of-course assessment or exit exam requirement, but all students will receive a certificate on completion if they attend a minimum of 80%.

Minimum Class Numbers

All part-time courses require viable numbers and class size to run. If the chosen course does not run, students will be offered the chance to postpone until the next block or request a refund.
