Language Centre

The Language Centre at University College Cork offers a variety of English language courses and programs for students, staff, and external participants.

Examinations

The centre administers various English language examinations, such as:


  • Cambridge Suite of Examinations
  • IELTS Examination

Programme 4: Exam Preparation

This program is designed for students who want to improve their English language skills and prepare for English language exams like IELTS, Cambridge B2 First, or C1 Advanced.


Level B1+ (IELTS Band 4.5) to C1+

The program helps students raise their level of English and learn the skills and strategies needed to succeed in English language exams.


  • Receive expert advice and feedback to improve performance in all skills areas tested (reading, speaking, listening, and writing).
  • Students can enroll for a minimum of 2 weeks or up to a maximum of 10 weeks.

End-of-Course Assessment

There is no exit exam requirement for this course when taken during the summer. However, all students receive a certificate upon completion of the summer course.


Online Exam

Arrangements can be made for students to take the computer-based IELTS exam, subject to sufficient demand and a minimum of 10 weeks' notice.


Fees for Summer 2026

The fees for the Exam Preparation course are as follows:


  • 2 weeks: 680
  • 4 weeks: 1,300
  • 6 weeks: 1,890
  • 8 weeks: 2,520
  • 10 weeks: 3,150

IT Requirements

All students are required to bring a fully-charged laptop (with audio and video) and headphones to class to ensure full participation and access to course materials. A reliable internet connection is also required. Students should download Microsoft Teams to their laptop before starting the course. UCC recommends using the Chrome browser for best interaction with all its applications.
