Program Overview

Centre for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning (CIRTL)

The Centre for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning (CIRTL) offers a Digital Badge in Universal Design for Learning. This badge is designed to promote inclusivity and equity in learning and teaching, and to help academic staff adapt to the changing landscape of higher education.

Digital Badge in Universal Design for Learning

The Digital Badge in Universal Design for Learning is a research-based curriculum design approach that recognizes and accommodates the variability and diversity of learners. This CPD course will give participants an introduction to the concept of Universal Design for Learning and invite them to review and update their own teaching and learning practice.

Programme Details

  • The online component of the Digital Badge involves engaging with a 7-hour (approx.) online learning resource.
  • Participants must also attend a workshop in person on UCC campus.
  • Finally, participants must complete a redesign activity where they will select a teaching/training activity, evaluate it, and redesign some elements of it using UDL principles learned about.
  • The redesign activity will be reported on in the form of a brief case study.
  • In total, the Digital Badge requires approximately 25 hours of learner effort.

Audience

This badge is aimed at academic staff and any other higher education staff members who have a teaching remit, such as those who deliver teaching/training programmes for staff and students.

Facilitators

The staff professional development activity will be facilitated by CIRTL's Dr. Laura Lee and DS Advisor for Inclusive Learning & Teaching and CIRTL Fellow, Dr. Brian Butler.

Registration

Registration for the UDL Digital Badge is currently open. Any queries should be directed to the course facilitators.
