Entry Requirements and Eligibility

To be eligible for the BA (Hons) in Social Care program, applicants must meet certain requirements.


  • Previous Education: Applicants must have successfully completed a FET (120 credits), QQI Level 5 Certificate, or Leaving Certificate with six recognized subjects and a minimum Grade H5 in two subjects and minimum Grade O6/H7 in the remaining four subjects.
  • Health: Candidates must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
  • Character: Each candidate must be of good character and abide by the SCWRB Code of Conduct and Ethics and UCC Student Rules.
  • English Language Competency: Applicants who are non-native speakers of the English language must meet the university-approved English language requirements.
  • Other Role Requirements: Successful candidates may be required to commit to working with the employer/Work Integrated Learning Host Organisation for a stated number of years post-receipt of the Level 8 qualification.
  • Garda Vetting: Each student offered a place on the BA (Hons) Social Care program shall be subject to the Employer's Garda Vetting Policy and its pre-clearance processes.

Applications are invited by CV, together with a personal statement clearly stating suitability for the Work-Based Learning Programme. The application process includes shortlisting, which may be carried out on the basis of information supplied in the application.
