Program Overview

Program Overview

The Mammography program, offered as part of the PG Dip Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences at University College Cork, is designed to provide already qualified radiographers with comprehensive knowledge and advanced skills in the field of medical imaging, specifically mammography. This program combines theoretical foundations with practical training, equipping students with a deep understanding of mammographic technology, image acquisition, and interpretation.

Program Structure

Through a blend of rigorous coursework, hands-on laboratory experiences, and clinical rotations, students develop expertise in mammographic imaging protocols, patient care, safety, and advanced diagnostic techniques. The program is structured to enable graduates to emerge as competent and skilled professionals capable of applying their knowledge to enhance patient outcomes and contribute to advancements in the field of medical imaging.

Entry Requirements

Applicants for the Mammography pathway must:

  • Have a Second Class Honours in a primary honours degree (NFQ, Level 8), in Radiography or Radiation Therapy, or have successfully completed a Masters (NFQ, Level 9) in Diagnostic Radiography or Radiation Therapy.
  • Be registered with the appropriate professional body.
  • Provide written evidence of support from their line manager stating:
    • That the applicant is in an appropriate role for the entire duration of their course.
    • That the applicant will have access to diagnostic or imaging equipment at their workplace.
