Program Overview
Introduction to the Presidential Scholarship
The Presidential Scholarship for Distinguished Achievement is a prestigious award that recognizes students with exceptional talents in various fields. Twenty renewable scholarships of $16,000 each are awarded annually to students admitted to Wake Forest who possess outstanding abilities in art, dance, debate, music, and theatre.
Program Details
The Presidential Scholarship program, established in 1987, aims to further diversify the interests and abilities of the campus and student body. Although Presidential Scholars are not required to pursue a major in their area of talent, they are expected to participate actively in that activity on campus.
Eligibility and Requirements
Interested students must be prepared to present evidence of outstanding talent and provide documentation, such as:
- Art portfolios
- Debate records
- Taped performances They must also submit recommendations to support their application.
Application Process
The priority deadline for completing the Presidential Scholarship application is November 15th. However, applications will be accepted after this date as talent areas allow, until the application ceases to be available on January 4. Finalists will be invited for an in-person or virtual interview by the beginning of March, and winners will be notified in late March.
Benefits and Opportunities
Presidential Scholars with an interest in dance, music, and/or theatre are given preference for an internship with the Secrest Artists Series. This opportunity provides valuable experience and exposure in their field of talent.
