Certificate in Actuarial Science
The Certificate in Actuarial Science is an archived program offered by Wake Forest University.
Course List
The following courses are required for the certificate:
- ACC 111: Introductory Financial Accounting (3 hours)
- ECN 150: Introduction to Economics (3 hours)
- ECN 205: Intermediate Microeconomics (3 hours)
- or ECN 210: Intermediate Mathematical Microeconomics
- ECN 207: Intermediate Macroeconomics (3 hours)
- or ECN 211: Intermediate Mathematical Macroeconomics
- FIN 231: Principles of Finance (3 hours)
- STA 310: Probability (3 hours)
- STA 311: Statistical Inference (3 hours)
Declaration and Eligibility
To declare the certificate in actuarial science, a student must receive at least a C or AP credit in each of ACC 111, ECN 150, and MTH 112. Upon declaration, students are eligible for reserved seats during registration, as determined by each department and by the School of Business.
Exams and Internships
Students are strongly encouraged to take Society of Actuaries (SOA) Exam P shortly after completing STA 310, and SOA Exam FM shortly after completing FIN 231. Students are also strongly encouraged to seek an actuarial internship in the summer after their junior year.
Validation by Educational Experience (VEE) Credit
Students can apply for Validation by Educational Experience (VEE) credit with the SOA after passing at least two actuarial exams.
