Bachelor's Degree Programme in Territorial, Urban, Environmental and Landscape Planning

Programme Overview

Planning means to steer the use of the territory, city, environment, and landscape by adopting the required tools to fulfill strategic choices related to everyone's life. The programme aims to train territorial planners, also known as "territorial technicians," with specific skills in drafting urban, territorial, environmental, and landscape plans. These professionals will be able to define and manage programs and integrated projects of urban and environmental transformation and regeneration, develop analysis and evaluations of territorial and environmental character, design territorial information systems, and manage technical and administrative procedures of plans and programs related to the city and the territory for public administrations.

Programme Details

The territorial planner is a key professional in urbanization processes, managing land-use, air pollution, social inequalities, and responding to climate change, while considering the safeguard of landscape, historical, and cultural heritage, plus the enhancement of the landscape and the improvement of quality life in urban spaces. This programme differs from architecture programmes, which focus on the single building, whereas this programme focuses on the city and its transformations, the organization of extended territories, the landscape, and the management of environmental resources up to the supranational scale. It also differs from engineering programmes, which focus on specific interventions, whereas this programme emphasizes the ability to analyze urban and territorial phenomena with a multidisciplinary approach and the methods and tools to support choices related to the organization and management of the territory in plans and programs.

Accreditation

In July 2019, the Bachelor's degree programme was awarded the Certificate of Quality by AESOP, Association of European Schools of Planning. This prestigious certification awards the best courses that train territorial planners throughout Europe.

Programme Curriculum

The curriculum is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of territorial, urban, environmental, and landscape planning. It includes courses on planning principles, urban design, environmental management, and geographic information systems, among others.

After Graduation

Graduates of the programme will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to pursue careers in territorial planning, urban management, environmental conservation, and landscape design. They will be able to work in public administrations, private companies, or non-profit organizations, contributing to the sustainable development of territories and communities.

Student Testimonials

Students who have graduated from the programme have praised its comprehensive approach and the opportunities it provides for professional growth and international exchange. For example, one student noted that the programme allowed them to deepen their understanding of Doughnut Economics during a semester abroad at Newcastle University, thanks to the Erasmus+ programme. Another student highlighted how the programme's focus on territorial planning and management has been fundamental in their professional path, enabling them to acquire new competencies necessary for addressing the cultural and work changes required by digitalization in public administrations.
