Program Overview

Programme Details

The Bachelor's degree programme in Territorial, Urban, Environmental and Landscape Planning is a comprehensive program that covers three main topics: territorial government and urban/territorial planning, landscape and environment, and Geographic Information Systems.

What Will You Learn?

The program adopts a strongly professionalizing approach, providing students with a deep understanding of complex phenomena related to territory, city, landscape, and environment. In the first year, students will acquire basic analysis tools and knowledge of the evolution and history of urban planning, planning tools, and the institutional system for the government of the territory. They will also gain knowledge in mathematical and statistical fields, as well as representation and cartography.

In the second year, students will gain planning skills at the urban level and knowledge in territorial planning and its practices, including sociology, economic and urban geography, techniques, and methods of spatial analysis with GIS tools. They will participate in two Ateliers, one on urban design and the other on spatial planning, landscape design, and hydrology.

In the third year, students will understand the complexity of implementation processes by acquiring the required skills in this field. They will participate in an Atelier on urban regeneration and local development, complemented by courses aimed at providing evaluation skills in the field of economic feasibility and knowledge, plus skills in mobility and transport planning.

How Will You Learn?

The Bachelor's degree programme is Italian-taught, providing several interdisciplinary practical activities. Students will learn to use Geographic Information System (GIS) managing software, acquiring specific skills in the collection and systematization of spatial data for the production of cartographic representations at different scales.

Students will develop their planning skills through four multidisciplinary Ateliers, face-to-face lessons, classrooms, and computer lab exercises. All practical activities will be carried out in small groups, starting from concrete case studies, allowing students to simulate decision-making processes and compare design solutions by applying the acquired cognitive, interpretative, and technical tools.

In the third year, students will do a curricular internship in public and private institutions, such as Municipalities, Provinces, Regions, public-private bodies, associations, and professional firms, that work in the territorial, urban planning, and design fields. They will be able to test the knowledge and skills acquired during their lessons and workshops by collaborating with professionals and technicians who practice planning activity every day.

Final Exam and Internship

At the end of the program, students will have to take a final exam after passing the English language exam and completing their internship.

Relevance to Global Initiatives

The program is relevant to global initiatives, such as the United Nations Habitat III Urban Agenda, which emphasizes the importance of training in urban, land use, landscape, and environmental planning. The "Quito Declaration on Sustainable Cities and Human Settlements for All" highlights the need for improved capacity in urban planning and design, ensuring training for planners at the national, infra-national, and local levels.
