Program Overview

Introduction to the Program

The Bachelor's Degree in Territorial, Urban, and Environmental Planning is a professionalizing course that focuses on three main themes:

  1. Territorial government and urban planning
  2. Landscape and environment
  3. Territorial Information Systems

Course Structure

The course is divided into three years. In the first year, students will gain a basic understanding of the complexity of territory, city, landscape, and environment. They will be introduced to the history of urban thought, planning tools, and institutional systems for territorial government. Additionally, they will receive training in mathematical and statistical tools, representation, and cartography. The first year will conclude with a six-month practical experience in an Atelier to interpret the city and territory.

In the second year, students will acquire design skills at an urban level and knowledge in the field of territorial planning and its practices. They will participate in two Ateliers, one on urban design and the other on territorial planning, and will also attend lectures that provide basic knowledge in the fields of energy efficiency and environmental assessment.

In the third year, students will understand the complexity of implementation processes and acquire the necessary skills in this field. They will participate in an Atelier on urban regeneration and local development, and will attend lectures that provide evaluative skills in the field of economic feasibility and knowledge in mobility and transport planning.

Teaching Methods

The course is taught in Italian and includes numerous interdisciplinary applied activities. Students will learn to use software for managing Territorial Information Systems, acquiring specific skills in collecting and systematizing territorial data for producing cartographic representations at different territorial scales.

Students will develop their design skills through four multidisciplinary Ateliers, frontal lessons, exercises in the classroom and computer labs. All practical activities are carried out in small groups, starting from concrete case studies, allowing students to simulate decision-making processes and stimulate discussion on design solutions by applying the cognitive, interpretive, and technical tools learned.

In the third year, students will undertake a curricular internship at public and private entities, such as municipalities, provinces, regions, public-private entities, associations, and professional studios, where they can experiment with the knowledge and skills acquired during lessons and Ateliers, in direct contact with professionals and technicians who practice planning activities every day.

Additional Activities

Students will participate in cultural initiatives and study trips aimed at deepening themes related to the territory and its inhabitants, as well as scientific and professional updating events, meetings, and seminars with external experts.

Program Accreditation

The Bachelor's Degree in Territorial, Urban, and Environmental Planning has obtained the Certificate of Quality from the Association of European Schools of Planning (AESOP) in 2019.

Program Completion

At the end of the course, students must pass a final exam, preceded by the passage of the English language test and the internship.
