Bachelor of Biomedical Science

The Bachelor of Biomedical Science is an undergraduate program designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in the biomedical sciences. The program aims to equip students with the fundamental knowledge and research skills necessary for employment in biomedical research and other health professional programs.

Admission Criteria

The admission criteria for the Bachelor of Biomedical Science program are as follows:

• Recent secondary education: Meet any prerequisite requirements with a minimum grade of C- or equivalent, and qualify for the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) with a competitive Selection Rank (ATAR).
• Higher education study: Complete or partly complete a recognized higher education program at a recognized higher education institution.
• Vocational Education and Training (VET): Complete an award from a registered training organization at Certificate IV or above.
• Work and life experience: Qualify for Special Entry, complete a 12-month UniSA Foundation Studies program or equivalent, or hold completed secondary qualifications equivalent to SACE obtained more than 2 years in the past.

• English language entry requirements: IELTS total 6.5, with reading, writing, speaking, and listening scores of 6.0.

Program Structure

The program is structured over three years, with each year comprising two semesters. The courses studied in each semester are as follows:

First Year

• First Semester: Chemistry 100, Biology A, Health and Society, Biomedical Research Training
• Second Semester: Chemistry 101, Biology B, Quantitative Methods in Health, Human Anatomy 100

Second Year

• First Semester: Biochemistry, Microbiology, Physiology, Applied Psychology
• Second Semester: Genetics, Genes to Proteins, Immunology, Pharmacology C

Third Year

• First Semester: Infection and Immunity, Advanced Methods in Molecular Biology, Current Topics in Medical Research, and a choice of Clinical Trials for Drug Development or Fetal and Maternal Pathophysiology
• Second Semester: Genomics and Bioinformatics, Cancer Biology, Research Elective Project, and a choice of Clinical Trials Toxicology or Global Change and Human Health

Fees

The tuition fees for the Bachelor of Biomedical Science program are AUD $43,300 per annum (per 1.0 EFTSL) for students enrolled in 2025. Please note that tuition fees are subject to an annual increase.
