Bachelor of Community Health

The Bachelor of Community Health is an undergraduate program designed to prepare students to work as key community health workers. The program aims to develop knowledge, professional communication skills, and attitudes that support the coordination and enhancement of community-based services and the establishment of positive partnerships to improve the health, wellbeing, and dignity of individuals and groups.

Admission Criteria

Applicants are required to meet one of the following criteria with a competitive result:

• Higher Education Study: Successfully completed equivalent to a minimum of half a year of full-time study of a higher education program at a recognised higher education provider
• Vocational Education and Training (VET): Complete an award from a registered training organisation at Certificate IV or above
• Work and Life Experience (for domestic students only): Passed a UniSA Online literacy and numeracy test and have relevant work experience, or completed a 12-month UniSA Foundation Studies program or equivalent, or qualify for Special Entry
• Recent Secondary Education: Completed a secondary education qualification equivalent to SACE, such as an interstate year 12 or international qualification

English Language Entry Requirements

In addition to meeting academic entry requirements, international students who speak English as a second or additional language must also meet the University's English language entry requirements. The minimum language requirements for this program are:

• English Language Test: IELTS total [6.5], IELTS reading [6.5], IELTS writing [6.5], IELTS speaking [6.5], IELTS listening [6.5]

Program Structure

Courses within the first year provide students with an understanding of human biology, psychology, determinants of health, global and national health, mental health, and cultural safety. In the second year, students build on this knowledge and undertake studies in health promotion, nutrition, professional communication, disability, health law, ethics, and policy, and project management. In the final year, students study courses that develop the transition to employment, such as public health, case management, age-friendly environments, and a capstone course.
