The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical) uses an industry-focused, project-based teaching and learning approach to develop professional mechanical engineers who are well-prepared to work in diverse, interdisciplinary teams to solve complex problems in a socially and culturally appropriate manner.

Admission Criteria
The admission criteria have been grouped to assist in easily finding the information most relevant to individual circumstances. However, applicants may fit into more than one category, and the university will consider applicants against each of the relevant criteria.
- Recent Secondary Education:
- Meet any prerequisite requirements with a minimum grade of C- or equivalent
- Qualify for the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE), and achieve a competitive Selection Rank (ATAR)
- Complete secondary qualifications equivalent to SACE
- Complete the International Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimum score of 24 points
- Higher Education Study:
- Complete or partly complete a recognised higher education program at a recognised higher education institution
- Complete at least four Open Universities Australia (OUA) courses at undergraduate level or above
- Complete the Associate Degree in Engineering at the University of South Australia
- Vocational Education and Training (VET):
- Complete an award from a registered training organisation at Certificate IV or above
- Work and Life Experience:
- Qualify for Special Entry
- Complete a 12-month UniSA Foundation Studies program or equivalent
- Hold completed secondary qualifications equivalent to SACE obtained more than 2 years in the past

Program Structure
This program requires completion of courses totalling 144 units and comprises a common first year across all Engineering disciplines. The first two years of the program lay the foundation of mathematics, materials, mechanics, computing, engineering graphics, fluids, thermodynamics, and mechanical design principles. In the third year of study, students will concentrate on a set of discipline core courses and a range of specialist electives from their chosen application area.

Rules and Notes
- Engineers Australia (EA) requires students to achieve at least 450 hours/60 days full-time equivalent (FTE) of discipline and/or industry-related skills and competencies prior to graduation.
- Upon completion of the UniSA STEM Professional Practice Program (PPP), students will be invited to enrol in this course and complete the required assessment for the course.
- At least one of the Discipline Elective courses students enrol in during the final year must have a catalogue number starting with 4 (e.g., MENG 4XXX) or 5 (e.g., MFET 5XXX).
- Not all electives will be offered every year. Other options not listed here may only be taken with the prior agreement of the Program Director.
