Bachelor of Construction Management (Honours)
The Bachelor of Construction Management (Honours) is a four-year undergraduate program designed to provide an education and professional level qualification in the fields of quantity surveying, construction management, building technology, building structures, building surveying, and housing studies.
Program Overview
- The program requires the completion of courses totaling 144 units.
- It is structured to provide a common core with elective specializations in three areas: Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, and Building Surveying.
- Work-integrated learning is facilitated through the UniSA STEM Professional Practice Program, requiring students to gain at least 450 hours (60 days FTE) of discipline and/or industry-related skills and competencies.
Admission Criteria
- Recent secondary education: Meet any prerequisite requirements with a minimum grade of C- or equivalent, and achieve a competitive Selection Rank (ATAR).
- Higher education study: Complete or partly complete a recognized higher education program at a recognized higher education institution.
- Vocational Education and Training (VET): Complete an award from a registered training organization at Certificate IV or above.
- Work and life experience: Qualify for Special Entry, complete a 12-month UniSA Foundation Studies program or equivalent, or hold completed secondary qualifications equivalent to SACE obtained more than 2 years in the past.

Program Structure
The program is divided into four years, with each year comprising two semesters. The courses include:
First Year
- First Semester: Introduction to Contract Administration, Construction 1, Introduction to Construction Management, Construction Communication.
- Second Semester: Construction Materials, Introduction to Construction Business Management, Structures 1, University Elective.
Second Year
- First Semester: Quantity Surveying Practice 1, Contract Administration, Construction 2, Structures 2.
- Second Semester: Building Estimating, Construction Cost Planning, Construction Scheduling, Building Services.
Third Year
- First Semester: Development Regulation, Project Appraisal, Construction Environmental Science, Building Surveying.
- Second Semester: Construction Operations and Safety, Advanced Contract Administration, Fire Technology, Construction 3.
Fourth Year
- First Semester: Engineering Honours Project A, Integrated Project, and two of the following three specialization courses: Quantity Surveying Specialisation, Building Surveying Specialisation, Construction Management Specialisation.
- Second Semester: Construction Management Honours Research Project, Industry Experience, and two of the following three specialization courses: Quantity Surveying Specialisation, Building Surveying Specialisation, Construction Management Specialisation.
Rules and Notes
- This program requires students to complete the UniSA STEM Professional Practice Program (PPP) and accrue at least 450 hours (60 days FTE) of discipline and/or industry-related skills and competencies prior to graduation.
- To qualify for professional accreditation and full recognition, students must complete two courses in the same area of specialization in their final year.
- Upon completion of the UniSA STEM Professional Practice Program (PPP), students will be invited to enroll into the Industry Experience course and complete the required assessment for the course.
Professional Accreditation and Recognition
- The program is recognized as meeting the educational requirements for corporate membership with AIBS for graduates who have completed the Building Surveying specialization.
- The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (UK) (RICS): The program is recognized as meeting the educational requirement for corporate membership with RICS for graduates who have completed the Quantity Surveying or Building Surveying specialization.
- This program is recognized as meeting the educational requirements for voting membership of the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, for graduates who have completed the Quantity Surveying specialization.
- This program provides the educational requirements for corporate or full membership with the Australian Institute of Building. Eligibility also requires an applicant to demonstrate three years relevant experience.
