Introduction to the Dentistry Programme

The Dentistry programme at MedUni Vienna is a 12-semester programme that requires a total of 219.5 contact hours. The programme is divided into three phases, with the first phase taking two semesters, the second phase taking four semesters, and the third phase taking six semesters.

Phase 1

  • Social Competence
  • First Aid
  • POL groups (problem-oriented learning)

Phase 2

The second phase of the programme takes four semesters and builds on the foundation established in the first phase. The courses in this phase include:


  • Functional Systems and Biological Regulation
  • Genetics, Molecular and Cellular Communication
  • Dental Propaedeutic Training
  • Oral Hygiene - Manual Skills
  • Physical Preventive Medical Examination
  • Science and Medicine
  • Diseases, Disease causes and Disease Patterns
  • Disease, Manifestation and Detection (Pharmacotherapy)
  • Medical Communication A
  • Basic Medical Techniques

Phase 3

The third phase of the programme takes six semesters and provides students with advanced training in clinical dentistry. The courses in this phase include:


  • Radiology, Radiological Protection and Diagnostics
  • Periodontology and Prophylaxis
  • Cardiology, Dental Filling Therapy, Endodontics, Dental Restoration, Fixed Prosthetics
  • Paediatric Dentistry - Patients with Special Needs I+II
  • Introduction to Patient Care
  • Assistance during the 72 weeks internship
  • Extraction on patients
  • Emergency medicine
  • Dentofacial surgery
  • Refresher on emergency medicine

Clinical Training

The programme includes a clinical internship that takes place in the third phase, which provides students with hands-on experience in a clinical setting. The internship is 72 weeks long and provides students with the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in a real-world setting.
