Public Health Doctoral Program
The Public Health doctoral program is a multidisciplinary research field that integrates medical and other sciences to collect and evaluate data on health and disease. The goal is to demonstrate the historical and current impacts of social, environmental, and occupational factors on health and disease, analyze the importance of these relationships at the population level, and design and evaluate public and occupational prevention measures, health promotion programs, improved health systems, and programs to reduce behavioral risks.
Program Objectives
The objective of the Public Health doctoral program is to train young scientists and public health professionals in the broadest sense for independent and cooperative scientific work in medical and related professions. The combination of scientific experience and guidance with practice seminars achieves a symbiosis of science and practice. Graduates are prepared to apply scientific and practical methods in their profession, continuously develop professional practice and effectiveness, take responsibility for improving public health, and promote it through applied research projects.
Program Structure
The Public Health doctoral program is one of the largest doctoral programs at the MedUni Wien, with around 90 students. It covers all areas of public health in 28 introductory basic lectures, several journal clubs, and practice seminars. Students conduct research under the supervision of highly experienced scientific mentors, supported by individual and group seminars on dissertation topics.
