Program Overview
The Doctoral Program of Applied Medical Science includes various courses that provide students with a broad insight into clinical and experimental topics. The program consists of Propedeutics, Basic Courses, Practical Seminars, Journal Clubs, and Thesis Seminars.
Basic Seminar
The Basic Seminar is held in the winter term, usually during two weeks in November. Members of the program faculty contribute lectures of one hour, which are within their specific expertise and deal with most versatile topics. The aim is to provide students enrolled in the program with a broad insight into clinical and experimental topics encompassed by the fields of endocrinology, metabolism, and nutrition. At least half of the ECTS for Basic Seminars must be collected in the specific courses of the program.
Practical Seminar
The Practical Seminar is held in the summer term, usually during two weeks in May. It offers a broad variety of different courses including discussions, interpretation of research data, and practical trainings in the laboratory. The courses are practice-oriented and involve major active contributions from the students. At least half of the ECTS for Practical Seminars must be collected in the specific courses of the program.
Journal Club and Thesis Seminar
Formally two different courses, Journal Club and Thesis Seminar are held together on Thursday afternoons. Students present an interesting scientific paper or report about progress made in their projects. The aim is to bring together students and to provide them with training for scientific presentation and discussion, as well as with insight into the broad variety of studies and topics that arise within the fields of endocrinology, metabolism, and nutrition. To gain credits, it is obligatory to attend the courses and to deliver the scheduled presentations. At least two thirds of the ECTS for Journal Clubs and Thesis Seminars must be collected in the specific courses of the program.
