Program Overview
Program Overview
The Sports Media Certificate is designed for students pursuing media careers in the sports industry. Sports media jobs are often interdisciplinary, and can involve several of the traditional media disciplines, from journalism to advertising to public relations.
Required Coursework
Students choose four courses, two of which must come from a department or program outside their major. The following courses are available:
- College of Media & Communication
- ADV 4301 Special Topics: Sports Advertising
- CMI/JOUR 2000 or 3100 or EMC 4300 courses for a maximum of 3 credit hours
- Activities courses where students can earn academic credit for practicum work related to sports, including but not limited to:
- Raider Vision (TTU Athletics Broadcasting)
- the HUB
- the Outpost
- Double T Insider (department chair approval required)
- CMI 4301 Special Topics: Producing for Sports
- JOUR 4305 Sports and Media
- PRSC 3354 Sports PR
- PRSC 4301: Special Topics: Event Management
- PRSC 4301: Global Sports
- Department of Exercise and Sports Science
- ESS 4355 Sports Facilities and Event Management
- ESS 4356 Fundamentals of Sports Marketing (based on agreement with the Department of Exercise and Sports Science to waive any and all pre-requisites for these courses)
