Program Overview


Program Overview

The Masters of Music/Doctor of Music Arts in Conducting - Wind program at Texas Tech University focuses on the individual learning journey of each conductor, fostering the development of personal authenticity and artistic identity. Through a focus on pedagogy, rehearsal techniques, score study, and performance practice, students will explore and refine their unique approach to conducting.


Program Emphasis

Emphasis is placed on reflective and experiential learning, encouraging each conductor to discover their own interpretive voice and leadership style. Students will gain practical experience through working with athletic and concert bands, new music ensembles, conducting classes, and other studio or campus performance groups.


Admission Requirements

  • Prepare a 10-minute rehearsal video and submit via a link.
  • Prepare a performance video of approximately 10 minutes on two contrasting styles of repertoire and submit via a link.
    • The video should demonstrate the applicant's conducting abilities.
  • Write a personal statement which includes goals for study and reasons for applying to Texas Tech.
  • Submit a writing sample from either a previous degree or complete an analysis of a wind piece of serious merit of your choosing.
  • Submit the graduate school application through the Texas Tech University Graduate School.
