Introduction
The Department of Korean Literature in Classical Chinese was established in 1988 to provide a systematic and broad curriculum for understanding Korean classics. The department aims to cultivate basic abilities through the instruction of oriental studies and Korean Literature in Classical Chinese.

Department Overview
The department provides a comprehensive education in Korean Literature in Classical Chinese, with a focus on understanding and enhancing the ability to read Classical Chinese. The curriculum includes foundation courses, intensive courses, and graduate courses.
Undergraduate Courses
Foundation Courses
- Students selectively read early East Asian texts to enhance their understanding of the world of East Asian thought and the Classical Chinese Language.
- Basic Confucian canons, including the 'Four Books' (The Analects of Confucius, Mencius, The Book of the Golden Mean, Great Learning), are studied to learn Chinese letters and understand the thoughts of Confucianism.
Intensive Courses
- Students read Chinese poetry written by Koreans for a systematic understanding of outstanding Chinese poetry.
- The lives, thoughts, and literature of major writers in the history of Sino-Korean literature are reviewed and discussed.
Graduate Courses
Graduate courses are available for students studying Korean Literature in Classical Chinese and Oriental Classics.
