The Undergraduate Certificate in Instructional Design prepares graduates to facilitate learning and improve performance outcomes by introducing, enhancing, and integrating technology in various professional settings, including classrooms, school libraries, corporate workplaces, healthcare facilities, non-profit organizations, and more.
Program Overview
The program focuses on hands-on research, exploring imaginative ways to improve research, teaching, and learning with emerging technologies. The Emerging Technologies and Creativity Research Lab is a key component of the program, where students and faculty work together to find creative solutions to transform education using resources such as:
- Flight simulator
- 3D printing machine
- Mixed-reality teaching simulator
- Robots
- Other cutting-edge technologies

The program has a strong track record of producing successful graduates, including:
- Kushal Jha, who completed his PhD in Learning, Design, and Technology and served as the College of Education and Human Sciences Graduate Commencement Marshal
- Frances Alvarado-Albertorio, who received the 2019 Smaldino and Herring Leadership Award for the Association for Educational Communications and Technology's (AECT) Teacher Education Division
- Kathy Essmiller, who earned her master's in educational technology and is currently pursuing her doctorate in educational technology, and was named an Open Educational Resource (OER) Research Fellow
