Program Overview
NOT-koulu Program
The NOT-koulu program is a unique opportunity for high school students (2nd and 3rd year) interested in astronomy, physics, and natural sciences. The program is a collaboration between the University of Turku's Science Center, the LUMA Center of Southwest Finland, the Finnish ESO Center, and Finnish high schools.
Program Description
The NOT-koulu program offers an intensive experience in astronomical research, providing students with hands-on experience in conducting scientific research. The program includes:
- Introduction to astronomy and software through self-study before the observation period
- A two-day visit to the University of Turku, including lectures on observational astronomy and a night of observations at the telescope, conducted remotely
- Data analysis and presentation of results in the form of a scientific report after the course
- A trip to La Palma, where students will conduct observations at the NOT telescope
Curriculum
The program's curriculum includes:
- Introduction to Astronomy: An introduction to astronomy and the NOT telescope, as well as a search for observation targets.
- Astronomy Crash Course: A crash course in astronomy and preparation for observations.
- Remote Observations: Remote observations using the NOT telescope.
- Data Analysis: Analysis and presentation of observation results.
Schedule
The program schedule includes:
- Introduction Lectures: Two introduction lectures, one on October 21st and one on October 28th, which will be held remotely.
