Program Overview


Program Overview

The Entrepreneurship and Innovations in Health Care / Life Sciences program is a 3 ECTS course that approaches entrepreneurship from the company life cycle perspective, based on theories and real-life experience of entrepreneurs.


Learning Outcomes

After completing the course, the student will:


  • Understand the nature of entrepreneurship as a multi-dimensional phenomenon, particularly from the perspective of life sciences.
  • Learn the basics of different phases of the company life cycle, namely nascent venturing, business growth, and established businesses.
  • Be able to reflect and analyze key challenges related to different phases of the company life cycle of startups and existing businesses.

Content

The course covers key theoretical concepts and themes, as well as practical cases in the field of life sciences. The student will be introduced to:


  • Pre-readings on the phases of the themes
  • Active participation in lectures
  • Reflection assignments The course is conducted in collaboration with the life science accelerator and businesses, and features guest lecturers from companies presenting their cases and stories.

  • Pre-readings
  • Active participation in interactive meeting sessions
  • Reflective written assignments based on readings and lectures

Course Unit Methods

The course includes:


  • Interactive meeting sessions: 2 hours introduction, plus 3 * 3 hours for company cases/lectures (total 14 hours)
  • Pre-readings related to the company cases on the e-learning platform
  • Learning to be demonstrated via reflective written assignments at the end of the course

Learning Material

The learning material will be specified in the first session and will be available on the learning platform.


Further Information

The course is open to different faculties interested in the topic, as well as students from other institutions. There is a student quota of 10 for Open University students.


Qualifications

There are no strict requirements, but it is useful if the student has completed the Course Introduction to Entrepreneurship or other basic entrepreneurship course before enrolling.

The course is evaluated on a pass/fail basis.
