Program Overview


Introduction to China University of Geosciences

China University of Geosciences (CUG) is a key national university affiliated with the Ministry of Education. It is one of the key universities authorized by the state to establish a Graduate School and is listed in the national "211 Project" and the national "Double World-Class Project". CUG features a world-class specialization in geosciences, incorporating a wide range of research fields into diverse categories.


University Overview

CUG has a well-qualified faculty with 11 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 310 doctoral supervisors, 520 professors, and 927 associate professors. The university boasts a variety of renowned teaching and research teams, including 3 teams supported by the Foundation for Innovative Research Groups of NSFC, 3 Innovation Teams supported by the Ministry of Education, 6 National-level Teaching Teams, 1 winner of the National Teaching Master Award, and 9 winners of the Hubei Teaching Master Award.


Research and Academic Programs

CUG is composed of two campuses, the Nanwangshan Campus and the Future City Campus, and has four field training centers. The university has 86 science research institutions, laboratories, and research institutes, including 2 national key laboratories, 1 Chinese National Engineering Research Center, and 1 Innovation Talent Training Demonstration facility. CUG has established 15 centers for postdoctoral studies, 16 first-class doctoral discipline areas, 33 first-class master discipline areas, and 65 undergraduate programs.


Preparatory Education Program

The Preparatory Education Program is designed for beginners who plan to study science or engineering and provides a systematic study of general Chinese, technical Chinese, basic mathematics, physics, and chemistry. The program helps students proceed to degree programs in various disciplines at CUG or other renowned higher education institutions.


Course Setting

The program includes the following courses:


  • Comprehensive Chinese: 1 year, 560 hours, 16-18 hours/week (1st semester), 12 hours/week (2nd semester)
  • Chinese Listening: 1 year, 280 hours, 8 hours/week (1st semester), 6 hours/week (2nd semester)
  • Chinese Character: 1st semester, 80 hours, 4 hours/week
  • Technical Chinese: 2nd semester, 80 hours, 4 hours/week
  • Mathematics: 1.5 semesters, 120 hours, 4 hours/week
  • Physics: 2nd semester, 80 hours, 4 hours/week
  • Chemistry: 2nd semester, 80 hours, 4 hours/week

Program Duration, Application Deadline, and Date of Entry

The program duration is 1-2 semesters. The application deadlines and dates of entry are as follows:


  • Spring: 1 semester, application deadline: January 1 - February 15, date of entry: March
  • Fall: 1 year, application deadline: March 1 - June 15, date of entry: September

Qualification of Applicants

Applicants must meet the following requirements:


  1. Non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport, in good physical and mental health, and holding a high school diploma.
  2. Aged 18-25. Applicants under 18 must submit the original guardian certificate.
  3. Note: Applicants who once held Chinese nationality and then were naturalized as a foreign national or whose parents are both Chinese nationals and have settled abroad must meet specific requirements.

Application Procedure

  1. Register and submit the online application.
  2. Upload required documents and download and print the application form.
  3. Send the required application documents to the university.
  4. Wait for the Admission Notice and Visa Application Form.

Application Materials

The following documents are required:


  1. CUG application form (in Chinese or English)
  2. Notarized highest diploma (in Chinese or English)
  3. One photocopy of a valid passport (personal information page)
  4. Foreigner Physical Examination Form (photocopy)
  5. Certificate of Non-Criminal Records
  6. The International Student Economic Guarantee Copy of the passport and work or income certificate of the guarantor
  7. Applicants under 18 must submit relevant supporting documents upon arrival on campus.
  8. Valid HSK Certificate or English Proficiency Certificate (if available)
  9. Other additional documents (certificates of awards, etc.)

Admission and Notification

The admission list will be published before July 20th. The Letter of Admission and the Visa Application Form for Foreign Students in China (JW202 form) will be sent to applicants before August 10th.


Fees

  1. Application Fee: 400 RMB (approximately 55 USD)
  2. Tuition: 9000 RMB (approximately 1285 USD) per semester, 18000 RMB (approximately 2500 USD) per year
  3. Medical Insurance: 400 RMB (approximately 55 USD) per semester
  4. Other fees, such as traveling fees and learning materials fees, are undertaken by students themselves.
  5. Accommodation:
  • Single Room: 12,000 RMB (approximately 1700 USD) per year
  • Double Room: 8,400 RMB (approximately 1200 USD) per year per bed
