Becoming a GSAS Major

To become a GSAS major, students must apply to the program. The application process involves submitting a portfolio, a statement of intent, a semester-by-semester plan of study, and an unofficial transcript.


Application Deadlines and Details

The application deadlines for the GSAS program are:


  • Fall Semester Deadline: December 15th
  • Spring Semester Deadline: April 15th
  • Summer Deadline: May 15th

Application Requirements

The application requirements for the GSAS program include:


  • Statement of Intent: A 1-2 page written statement explaining how the major will help the student meet their professional goals
  • Semester-by-Semester Plan of Study: A plan that shows how long it will take to complete all graduation requirements
  • Portfolio Description Sheet: A descriptive list of items in the portfolio
  • Portfolio: A collection of the student's work
  • Unofficial Transcript: An unofficial transcript that shows all progress to date

Portfolio Requirements

The portfolio should include:


  • 3-5 examples of original works representative of the program
  • A descriptive list of items in the portfolio
  • Digital games, mods, levels, and interactive media should be Windows, Mac, or Linux compatible
  • Playable physical games should include image and/or video documentation
  • Video should be uploaded directly to the Box Folder

Supporting materials that can be included in the application are:


  • Faculty references
  • Recommendation letters
  • Other relevant materials

Review Process

The application will be reviewed by the GSAS faculty, and students will be notified of the decision within two weeks of the deadline.
