Program Overview
Finnish for Teaching
The course introduces participants to Finnish language of teaching and communication in different academic fields. During the course, participants:
- familiarise with teaching a university course in Finnish
- reflect on their own strengths as teachers in Finnish
- compile vocabulary and central concepts in Finnish in their own field of expertise
- produce a poster covering an issue in one's own field and introduce the poster to other participants.
Education Information
The topics and communicative situations in the course include:
- emails
- meetings and negotiations
- pedagogical language (giving instructions, guiding students, teaching dialogue, concepts of digital pedagogy)
- information retrieval in an article of one's own field. The participants can also influence the content themselves.

Course Learning Outcome
By the end of the course, the participant:
- can understand basic professional communication in a university education context
- knows basic concepts of teaching in Finnish in their own field of expertise.
Learning Activities and Teaching Methods
- Contact teaching and self-study
- Lessons once or twice a week (26 h) and guided self-study (24 h)
- Moodle learning environment is used on the course
Additional Information
Please note that this is a face-to-face course and cannot be taken online.

- Entry level at least B1
Target Group
The course is for advanced level students. The course is intended for international students and staff of all faculties of the University of Oulu. The course is also open to students outside / non-degree students with separate study right.
Assessment
To pass the course, students must attend contact teaching on a regular basis and complete self-study tasks and other homework assignments.
