Program Overview
Introduction to the Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Program
The Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) site award at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) supports the training of 8 students for 10 weeks during the summers. This program is funded by the Division of Chemistry and focuses on materials chemistry involving chemical synthesis, material characterization, and semiconductor technologies.
About the Program
The REU program at UTD is designed to provide participants with collaborative research projects and professional development and ethics training. The program aims to broaden participation in STEM fields, with a focus on science communication and preparation for graduate school or industrial careers. Through independent research projects and workshop and seminar series, participants will gain exposure to chemistry research in semiconductor technology and clean room techniques.
Research Areas
The REU program will focus on the following research areas:
- Improved chemical processes for the synthesis of organic and inorganic functional materials and biomaterials
- Fabricating and testing devices in the UTD clean room facility
- Improved organic semiconducting materials
- Dynamic covalent chemistry in 3D printing
- Hybrid perovskites for neutron detection
- Preparation of metal nanoparticles for bio-applications
- Dynamics of protein-nucleic acid complexes
Program Details
The program is supported by the Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC) and will provide participants with the opportunity to give a presentation at the TECHCON Conference organized by the SRC. The Summer 2026 REU program at UTD will run from May 27th, 2026, to July 31st, 2026.
