Program Overview
Introduction to the Customized Online MBA and MS Programs
The Customized Online MBA and MS options offer students the opportunity to learn completely in an online environment. These programs recognize peer leadership and provide the opportunity to participate in an international experience, either online or in-person. Students can also expand their professional soft skills with Executive Coaching and personalize their degree or capitalize on the career services offered through the JSOM's Career Management Center.
Online Learning
The Customized Online Program has been a leader in distance-learning since 1995. Faculty from the Customized Online MBA also teach in the online MS programs, utilizing multiple technologies to support learning through the UT Dallas learning management system, eLearning. Teaching methods used throughout all the courses include:
- Discussion Boards
- Web Conferences
- Recorded Lectures
- Online Group Discussions
- Simulations
- Online Assessments
Leadership Recognition
The Guisinger Globe is a tradition of peer-recognized class leadership, proposed by the GLEMBA Class of 2016 in recognition of Dr. Stephen E. Guisinger. Dr. Guisinger was a prominent international business economist, scholar, and leader in the classroom, who pioneered Internet-based distance learning. The Guisinger Globe is awarded at each graduation ceremony to recognize outstanding peer leadership.
Friends and Family Graduation
In addition to the formal JSOM graduation ceremony, the Customized Online Program hosts an online graduation celebration dedicated to the class, their families, friends, and employers. During the ceremony, outstanding achievement awards are presented for:
- Academic Achievement (highest GPA)
- Class Leadership in the Customized Online Programs Guisinger Globe
- Best Study Group Contributor
- Teaching Excellence
Optional International Experiential Learning
The Customized Online MBA and online MS students are offered the option of an experiential learning experience, either online or in-person, in partnership with the campus-based Executive MBA program. This international experience provides students with a more in-depth appreciation of the dynamics behind international commerce and business. Recent study tours have been to:
- Spring 2023: Norway and Sweden
- Spring 2022: Austin and Boston (Domestic due to COVID-19)
- Spring 2020 and Spring 2021: (Cancelled due to COVID-19)
- Spring 2019: Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Montevideo, Uruguay
- Spring 2018: Prague, Czech Republic; Brussels, Belgium; and, Dublin, Ireland
