Introduction to the Finland Futures Academy's Annual Summer School
The Finland Futures Academy's annual summer school, 'Data & Futures Studies,' is a comprehensive program that delves into the versatile topic of combining present knowledge with perceptual knowledge. The summer school is organized online and consists of two parts: online lectures and exercises tailored for students, and participation in the summer conference 'Planetary Futures of Health and Wellbeing.'
Program Structure
The summer school is structured around four online lectures, each focusing on a specific aspect of futures studies:
- 17 May at 1518: Uniqueness of Futures knowledge and quantitative data
Case Verne Modelling futures in Finnish car traffic - 24 May at 1518: Qualitative and tacit data in Futures research
Case Style interviews, analyzing tools and mental time travel -work shop concept - 31 May at 1518: Data and ethics
Case Predictive algorithms and decision making - 7 June at 1518: Big Data

Course Requirements
To complete the 5 ECTS course, students must fulfill the following requirements:
- Preliminary readings (a collection of articles delivered to all enrolled), exercises, and preparation for lecture workshops
- Active participation in summer school (lectures and exercises)
- Participation in the conference
- Reflective learning diary (810 pages) due by 27 June
Admission and Fees
- The summer school fee is 35, due within the registration period.
- Registration for the summer school must be completed by 5 May 2022.
- The course can accommodate a maximum of 70 students.
- The summer school can be registered as TUTU5 Changing Futures Themes course.
Program Details
- The summer school's 5 ECTS workload consists of study assignments, active participation in online lectures and exercises, and participation in the virtual futures conference.
