Master of Science, Nurse-Midwifery Program

The Master of Science, Nurse-Midwifery program at Boston College is designed to prepare clinically competent nurse-midwives who provide family-centered health care at the full scope of practice.


Program Overview

The 16-course, 24-month M.S. in Nurse-Midwifery program is led by renowned faculty whose clinical experience bridges theory and practice, creating a dynamic learning environment that fosters student success. The program includes clinical placements in top Boston-area hospitals and community health centers, providing students with firsthand experience in midwifery care.


Program Eligibility

To be eligible for the program, applicants must have:


  • A Bachelor's or prelicensure Master's degree from a nationally accredited nursing program
  • A current RN license to practice nursing
  • One year of RN experience
  • A completed post-secondary course in statistics
  • Note: GRE is preferred but not required for application

Program Details

  • Number of courses: 16 courses (48 credits)
  • Program duration: 24 months of full-time study
  • Clinical practice hours: 750 hours (minimum)

What is Nurse-Midwifery?

As a certified nurse-midwife, you will be an expert in care during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. You will provide the full scope of care for your patients, from adolescence throughout the lifespan, as well as care for newborns during the first month of life.
