Program Details

The program "Tiedon k‰sittely, hallinta ja etiikka oppimisanalytiikassa" is a 5-credit course offered in the summer of 2023.

Course Description

The course provides an introduction to ethical principles, purposes, and practices of learning analytics, as well as design and planning principles.

Course Format

The course consists of lectures and guided work, totaling 24 hours, and independent and group work, totaling 110 hours.

Target Audience

The course is intended for students of education and psychology, as well as open university students.

Learning Objectives

Upon completing the course, students will be able to:

• Understand key concepts related to ethics and legislation in the context of learning analytics
• Analyze applications of learning analytics from an ethical perspective and identify potential problems
• Weigh the benefits and drawbacks of learning analytics in the context of education and society
• Apply ethical principles in the design of learning analytics

Teaching Methods

The course includes lectures, guided work, and independent and group assignments.

Assessment

The course is assessed based on participation in online teaching and completion of learning analytics assignments. The assessment criteria include:

• Understanding of key concepts and principles of learning analytics
• Ability to analyze applications of learning analytics from an ethical perspective
• Ability to weigh the benefits and drawbacks of learning analytics
• Ability to apply ethical principles in the design of learning analytics

Course Materials

The course materials include a textbook and current scientific articles, which will be announced at the beginning of the course.
