Data Mining and Data-Based Models Course
Course Information
The Data Mining and Data-Based Models course is a 5-credit course that runs from August 30, 2024, to December 30, 2024. The registration period is from August 8, 2024, to September 28, 2024.
Course Description
This course focuses on finding and analyzing big data online and learning how to apply this knowledge to beat diseases. The course covers sources and types of biomedical data, aggregated vs. sparse data, and the use of data for hypothesis generation and validation.
Prerequisites
It is recommended that students take this course together with or after the Bio-data course and before any courses on data management. Students should also have a background in molecular biology and biochemistry.
Course Objectives
After completing the course, students should be able to:
- Understand, find, and mine biomedical data sources
- Devise strategies for mining aggregated and sparse data
- Identify static and responsive databases and interact with them
- Perform basic data mining operations, including ontological enrichments and pathway
etwork analysis - Evaluate the quality of data and their usability in further contexts
Course Format
The course is web-based and includes 30 hours of exercise groups and 105 hours of self-study. The course is taught in English.
