Course Description

This interesting and engaging course enables students to achieve a basic level of bird species recognition by documenting observations in the national Tiira bird sighting diary.

Education Information

• Students independently familiarize themselves with Finland's birdlife and document their species recognition learning through a sighting diary.
• The BirdLife Finland-maintained Tiira bird sighting diary is used as the sighting diary.
• The course introduction session will provide a list of typical species for different habitats and the required species, as well as information on using Tiira and the related obligations.

Prerequisites

• Recommended: Animal species recognition, vertebrates 4 op (A) or equivalent knowledge.

Learning Objectives

• The objective of the course is to achieve a basic level of bird species recognition.

Implementation Methods

• Sighting diary. An information session on February 27, 2024 (not mandatory), independent learning (bird observations), and reporting to the Tiira bird sighting diary (requires registration). All instructions can be found on the Digicampus platform.
